Plot:

 

The Lady of the Camellias ballet tells the story of a young middle-class man, Armand Duval, who falls in love with courtesan Marguerite Gautier.  She has a habit to hide camellias flowers of different colours in her torso (whites when she is available for her lovers, reds for when she is annoyed).

In the chic Parisian microcosm, where rich amateurs and light behaving women are mixed, the young Armand Duval falls for the young and nice Marguerite Gautier, one of the queens of this ephemeral world of lavish partying.

After becoming the lover of  Marguerite, Armand convinces her to abandon her rowdy life to escape with him to the countryside, out of Paris.

But their relationship is threatened by the father of Armand, who asks Marguerite that she is breaking up with his son, under the pretext that his other child, the young sister of Armand must marry a man of good society. Up to the death of Marguerite, Armand will be persuaded that she  betrayed him for a new lover and broke up with him deliberately. The death of Marguerite, who left her life en loneliness and without means, concludes the story told by the desolated Armand Duval.

The Ballet of Tiit Härm rehabilitates in a unique manner the picture of a maintained woman of insensible, superficial and interested character, making her become a victim of bourgeois selfishness. In an act of generosity, Marguerite abandoned the luxury of a bright and lavish life for love itself, but her sincerity remains hidden from the others , thus she  becomes the victim of prejudice stemming from her abrupt exit from a courtesan`s status of virtue.
